Technical Specifications

Slim5n is designed with a focus on milling while also providing drill and tap capability for a wide range of machining applications. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) design techniques were employed to optimize structural rigidity and torsional stiffness for ultimate performance and consistent results. The machine structural configuration is based on a closed frame type design together with a pair of long supporting columns achieving superior structural rigidity.

Makino’s spindle technology is renowned throughout the world. Spindle rigidity, constant pre-load, multi-plane balancing, minimum vibration and reduced thermal growth are key characteristics that Makino has achieved through innovative design and manufacturing. The Slim5n comes with 2 spindle specifications (16,000 rpm and 8,000 rpm) well suited to production machining applications in a variety of materials. The spindle interface for both options is HSK-A50 which allows for efficient use of spindle capability in milling applications.

The standard 26 tool ATC magazine provides fast and reliable indexing to support high speed machining applications. Configured with an armless, direct tool pick and integral door, this design maximizes performance with minimal complexity.

Created for the production environment, Slim5n is equipped with several features to enhance productivity and support various types of automation where required. An integral pallet changer facilitates setting up on one pallet and machining on the other pallet simultaneously to reduce setup time. In addition to through spindle coolant, the machine is configured with nozzle and shower coolant to effectively remove chips from the cutting area. The work zone also incorporates sloped surfaces for more efficient chip evacuation. A lift up chip conveyor is included at the rear of the machine to evacuate the significant chip volumes produced by this capable milling machine. Finally, auto doors are included to assist with machine tending and robot interface is available as an option.
