Waters Corporation Makes New Innovations Possible with Ultra Precision Micromachining
Experienced team members of Waters Corporation describe the complexities and manufacturing challenges of research and development for ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) equipment. When developing a new UPLC technology featuring micro fluidic channels with widths of 0.0060 inches and depths of 0.0070 inches, Waters Corporation invested in a Makino iQ300 vertical machining center. The machine’s ability to produce positional movements within 0.00001-inch enabled the company to achieve required feature tolerances while producing surface finishes between 1 and 2 micro-inch Ra. As a result, Waters Corporation has been able to make new innovations possible, bringing new technologies to market faster than ever before.
