Build‑A‑Mold Transforms Operations with Automated Mold Manufacturing

Build-A-Mold’s 2014 company motto was “change,” but investments in several automated machining technologies helped the custom mold shop achieve true transformation. To enhance their automated mold manufacturing processes, Build-a-Mold purchased a Makino MCC2013-VG 6-axis horizontal machining center for fine finishing of large molds, a robot automated graphite machining cell featuring Makino’s F3 and F5 vertical machining centers, and an MMC2 automated pallet handling system with two a61nx horizontal machining centers for production of mold components. The results? Greater profitability and capacity to take on more work, added versatility, shortened cycle times, improved reliability and better quality workpieces—not to mention more satisfied customers and employees.
