Automated Hard Milling of Complex Molds at MGS Mfg. Group
MGS Mfg. Group's tooling division discusses how streamlining die/mold machining processes through automation has enabled the company to improve part quality, consistency and overall workflow. The company's most recent investments in two V33i vertical machining centers, which have been integrated into two robot-tended work cells, have enabled MGS to effectively mill complex molds of 64 HRc steels with required tolerances of plus or minus 0.0003 inches and repeatability within 0.0002 inches. These systems run fully unattended over nights and weekends for up to 20 hours of operation per day.
