MAKINO OFFERS VALUE-ORIENTED PRODUCTION READY S33 VMC
Makino Offers Value-Oriented Production Ready VMC
S33 Provides High-Performance at an Econcoimical Price for the Die Mold Shop
MASON, OH—September
2008—When it comes to purchasing vertical machining centers, small and
large die and mold shops have traditionally utilized contrasting buying
patterns. While small shops tend to focus on price, larger operations
differentiate themselves by applying high technology equipment.
Makino’s S33 VMC blends
high-performance machining capabilities with an attractive feature and
pricing package to meet the needs of both types of shops. It is
dedicated to helping manufacturers drive down the cost of their
operations.
S33 Features and Benefits
The Makino S33
incorporates features that are attractive to technology savvy mold
shops. The S33 utilizes a 40 taper, 13,000-rpm spindle with the
stiffness and rigidity required for hard cutting applications and the
speed necessary to provide high surface quality for demanding die and
mold applications. Heavy cast construction and an axis configuration
with no overhangs ensures high machine rigidity resulting in
outstanding accuracy over the full range of travel. It is capable of
maintaining positioning accuracies to within ±0.0001 inch (0.003 mm)
and repeatability of ±0.00008 inch (0.002 mm).
To reduce setups and
maximize machine utilization, the S33 is equipped with a 20-tool
magazine and automatic tool changer (ATC). The ATC has a quick
tool-to-tool exchange time of 1.3 seconds. Linear motion guides on X-,
Y- and Z-axes provide the rigidity crucial for superb surface finishes
and provide rapid traverse and cutting feed rates of 1,575 ipm (40,000
mm/min). The table-working surface is 34 x 20 inches (850 x 500 mm). In
addition, the axes travel area is 26 x 20 x 18 inches (650 x 500 x 450
mm).
Steeply sloped work
zone surfaces, highly crowned telescoping covers and twin spiral chip
screws assure quick and efficient chip handling - even the most
challenging dry cutting environments. A large coolant tank and
integrated, internal multi-phase separation system assures ample
coolant for those tough chip intensive projects.
The S33 includes
Makino’s proprietary, next generation Super Geometric Intelligence
(SGI.4) servo control providing exceptionally smooth machined
surfaces—even in high-feedrate machining of complex, 3-D shapes
involving continuous tiny blocks of NC data. This feature helps provide
the lowest cycle times achievable by reducing machining cycle times on
dies, complex cavities and cores by as much as 40% when compared to
most other control technologies.
The machine’s footprint
is a compact 96 inches wide x 135 inches deep (2,445 x 3,430 mm) and is
designed for easy maintenance access around the entire perimeter. Other
features include an ergonomic swing operator-control panel, fully
enclosed chip and splash shield, comfortable work table height, easy
access to the work zone, air blow and an air dryer unit.
The Makino S33 VMC
provides outstanding machine rigidity, proven high speed machining
capability, superb accuracies and superior performance for both the
small and large die and mold shop.
Other features include
an ergonomic swing operator control panel, fully enclosed chip and
splash shield with worklight, comfortable work table height, easy
access to the work zone, flood coolant, and an air filtration unit.
Additional Benefits
For even greater
flexibility, the S33 can be configured with an integral pallet changer
providing an extremely quick 7-second pallet change for a 24 x 16 inch
(600 x 400 mm) pallet capable of an 880 pound (400 kg) pallet load. A
30-tool magazine and through spindle coolant also make this pallet
changer version of the machine a high performance parts producer.
